Nicola Notaro, Head of the Nature Unit in DG Environment (European Commission) provides an overview of the Natura 2000 Guidance document produced for the non-energy extractive industries.

As outlined by European Commission Environment Director General Daniel Calleja Crespo, a correct management of geological resources allows for compatibility between extraction and biodiversity management. 

Once every two years, the European Minerals Day gives the opportunity to the public to explore the world of minerals and discover more about an industry that affects every aspect of our lives! Around 30.000 visitors are welcomed bi-annually at the 200 participating sites all over Europe and beyond. This industry-led awareness raising initiative receives the support from the European Commission as well as from a wide range of stakeholders at EU & national level.
